Lassen County Animal Shelter – Thumper
Thumper came to the Lassen County Animal Shelter as a stray. Concerned animal lovers brought him (sex is not certain) to the shelter after finding him all on his own.
Since his arrival, staff has found that Thumper can have a bit of an attitude and he is one talkative bunny, but he is still getting used to his surroundings. Who can blame him? This guy can throw a bit of a fit when it comes to leaving his cage, but once he calms down and realizes he gets to hang out in a bigger space with lots to explore, he calms down.
Thumper is not used to a lot of handling. He would rather be handled for a very short period of time and then be put down, but he doesn’t seem to mind the company of people at all. If he were to go to a home with children, adults would need to remove Thumper from his cage and handle the rabbit for the safety of both Thumper and the child. Thumper will “box” at someone to keep them at bay prior to removal from his cage.
Boxing is a typical rabbit behavior where they shift their weight to their hind legs and use their front paws to dig or “box” at you. It means they don’t like your behavior or what you are doing. It will take Thumper time to get used to regular handling, which is why that responsibility should fall on an adult.
Rabbit and child spending time with each other on the ground would further need to be supervised by an adult. Older, respectful children would be ideal. Thumper could care less about the resident shelter cats and also ignored the dogs that showed interest in him, so a home with either would be fine.
Thumper has quite the personality and is waiting for his forever home. If interested in Thumper or other adoptable animals at the Lassen County Animal Shelter please call (530) 257-9200. More pictures and a short video of Thumper can be seen o Petfinder.com.
