Two Susanville residents and a cat were forced out of their home Tuesday afternoon when a fire broke out in the attic of a residence at 130 Hall Street.
According to details provided by the Susanville Fire Department, at around 1:45p.m., Engine 621 responded to the home for a report of smoke coming from the roof.
“Upon arrival,” explains SFD Engineer Dale Johnson, “E621 reported smoke coming from both attic vents on the front and rear of the house.”
With all the occupants out of the building, firefighters made access inside the home and confirmed the fire was contained within the attic.
“Fire crews placed ladders on the exterior of the building and made access to the attic through the vents. Extinguishment was made difficult due to many void spaces throughout the attic.”
According to Johnson, fire crews eventually needed to open access holes from the inside of the house to completely extinguish the blaze.
The fire was determined to be electrical in nature.
Two occupants and a cat were displaced due to the fire and there were no fire fighter or civilian injuries.
The SFD was supported by Cal-FIRE, Susanville Police Department, City of Susanville Natural Gas and Lassen Municipal Utility District.
