Backroad Tragedy: Bieber Resident Found Dead Near Stuck Vehicle

sheriffupdateA Bieber man was found dead Wednesday morning, his body discovered near a stuck vehicle in a remote area of northern Lassen County.

According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Kevin Jones, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a woman found distressed in a vehicle on a Forest Service road located off of County Road A-2 near Bieber.

A second individual, whose vehicle was stuck in the same area came across the woman, identified by Jones as 85 year-old Bieber resident Marian Parks.  Investigation revealed that Marian’s husband, 94 year-old Carl Parks, and she had gotten stuck on the road.

“Apparently Carl had left the vehicle, assumedly to get help with their stuck vehicle,” explained Sergeant Jones. “When they became stuck, or when Carl left the vehicle, is unknown at this time. Marian was immediately taken to an area hospital for medical treatment.”

A search was undertaken by numerous allied agencies including Lassen County Search and Rescue, CHP Air Operations out of Redding, Cal-Fire, Forest Service and volunteers from local fire districts.  At approximately 3:30 Wednesday afternoon the body of Carl Parks was discovered a short distance from the stuck vehicle; he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigation into the circumstances of the death will be ongoing.  The official cause of death will be determined after an autopsy is performed.
