Banner Lassen Hosting Low-Cost Family Fun Olympics August 24th

Banner Lassen Medical Center is inviting the public to a low-cost family fun and fitness event at the Lassen County Fairgrounds, August 24th from 9:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.

Organizers plan to have various activities, including a rhythmic dancing competition, relay races and nine-hole Frisbee golf. Also, there will be a ‘Pirate Mania’ section for kids with three different activity stations. In addition, Bounce City offers a giant waterslide, ‘bouncy’ obstacle course and jumbo bounce house.

Medals and prizes will be awarded to the competitors in the different events, both team and individual, as well as fun participation prizes for everyone.

“We want parents to bring their kids out and get some one-on-one time with them just having fun together in a healthy way,” says Kim Neill, board member with the Banner Lassen Medical Center Foundation. “It’s an event that everyone in the family will enjoy.”

Representatives from the Lassen County Health Department will be on hand with Jeremy Germ and his Germ Lair, story books, coloring books and hand washing stations, as well as an area to conduct blood pressure screenings and provide children’s back-to-school immunizations. Hoola hoops, balance beams and a pool with frogs promise more excitement.

In addition, informational tables on everything from how to watch for ticks to tobacco education will be available. The California Highway Patrol and other emergency services will display emergency vehicles and provide valuable safety information.

“Also, we will have a couple special guests for the children,” Neill says. “Smokey the Bear and DANDY the Smokeless Dragon will be on hand to entertain and teach children about the importance of fire prevention and the health benefits of not smoking.”

The Family Fun Olympics is free to enter, and a low-cost concession stand will serve hamburgers, hot dogs and more. Water bottles have been donated by a physicians group for the participants to enjoy. The day is designed for children up to 14 years of age and their parents or other adult companions.

Volunteers from the Foundation Board, local community members and Banner Lassen Medical Center employees will be on hand to help everyone enjoy their day of fun. “Without the support of Banner Lassen and these great volunteers, this just wouldn’t be possible,” added Neill.
