The National Pink Glove Video competition has begun with our local Banner Lassen Medical Center competing against other hospitals around the country to help promote breast cancer awareness.
The video was filmed in September at the hospital and features Banner Lassen staffers and friends who gathered for the production.
According to the hospital the inspiration behind the video is that here in our rural area, with the closest oncology center and specialists located a minimum of 88 miles away, most residents rely on family, friends and community support to get through difficult times; to drive them the long distances to specialty care, support them, care for them and sometimes battle for them.
“It hit home for our facility when one of our own nurses was diagnosed with cancer,” says the online entry, “She described to us the feelings she experienced during her fight to survive. We decided to make the video as a tribute to her and other cancer patient’s struggles and successes from a small town against a big disease.”
The videos with the most votes will be awarded a donation to a breast cancer charity of their choice; 1st place – $25,000, 2nd place – $10,000 and 3rd place – $5,000.
