The Susanville Baseball Board is reaching out the community today, asking for donations to help repair the damage done to Pat Murphy Little League park in the February 9th flooding along the Susanville.
The fields took the brunt of the impact as waters overflowed the banks of the river, taking out much of the ball park’s infrastructure.
Video footage taken the night of the flooding shows more than four feet of water flowing through the fields.
“As you can imagine,” the board said in their statement at a new GoFundMe account set up to collect donations, “we are devastated by the amount of damage the flood has done to the fields.”
Volunteers arrived the morning after the flood to find asphalt roads, paths, and parking lots were ripped up, fences destroyed, infield gravel swept away and a layer of silt and river clay covering everything.
“Our clubhouse and snack bar were also completely flooded despite our efforts to sandbag all the entry points,” continued the plea.
“With baseball season upon us, we are looking to the community to help us restore the fields so that we can have a successful 2017 season.”
Organizers say that all money raised at the GoFundMe page will be put directly back into the restoration of the Pat Murphy Fields.
The board concludes by saying that, “No amount is too small. Your donation is greatly appreciated and will be put to use for years to come!”
