A Salinas man, identified by the California Highway Patrol as 44-year old Manual Gallegos, escaped injury after his big-rig struck a guardrail and destroyed fences at several residences in the Leavitt Lake area of Highway 395.
According to details release by the CHP, Gallegos was driving a 2013 Peterbilt Semi-Truck/Trailer combination northbound on Highway 395 near Buffum Lane at around 11:00a.m., on October 26th.
“As he traveled northbound, ” explains CHP Public Information Officer Kristen Wilburn, “he diverted his attention away from the roadway and to his radio, and allowed the vehicle combination to drift to the right.”
According to the report the vehicle then crossed the shoulder where its right front tire struck the guardrail. The impact caused the right front tire to blow-out and the truck traveled along the length of the guard rail, then traversed the adjacent ditch before plowing through three backyards in the Leavitt Lake subdivision.
No injuries were sustained during the collision.
“The Susanville CHP would like to remind drivers to use caution and avoid distractions while driving,” said Wilburn.
