Welcome to our weekly feature dedicated to covering Susanville and Lassen County’s business scene! Grand openings, new employees, renovations, new hours… each week we’ll keep you up to date with important information about the businesses you rely on.
Mean Bean Mountain Brew
Mean Bean Mountain Brew, based out of Janesville, was created by Chris and Cheryl Barcia for one purpose, to share their delicious coffee with their neighbors and friends.
“My husband, Chris, started making daily trips to Susanville with a plastic bin filled with coffee bags and a dream,” explains Cheryl Barcia. “He visited local businesses, and spoke to everyone he encountered. Before long, our phone started ringing off the hook with positive feedback and orders. Needless to say, I am so proud of him for the work he had done!”
The couple started Mean Bean using a small roaster with a 1 lb. capacity, but quickly outgrew the setup, needing a larger roaster to keep up with demand.
“We are also in the process of putting our coffee into several local stores, so it will be readily available to everyone. In addition, we have a booth at the Susanville Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings.”
“We have met so many extraordinary people in the 2 1/2 months we’ve been in business and are humbled by everyone’s support, advice, and kindness.”

“We are so very grateful to the people of Janesville, Susanville and Lassen County for supporting Mean Bean Mountain Brew in such an amazing way!”
Three Ages Homestead Shop
Three Ages Homestead, at 60 Hall Street, #2 inside Sierra Suites, is a newly opened Susanville shop all about giving a new use, or well-deserved facelift, to old furniture.
With an array of shabby chic, farmhouse and bohemian home décor that have been rescued and repurposed, owner Veronica Hull is certain that you will find unique and one-of-a-kind treasures.
“Items that we sell are handcrafted and upcycled and we try to have only one piece of each item, unless it is a set, so they are one of a kind and unique.”
Hull can custom make any item in the store to suit your home or office’s specific decor style.
“In addition to that, I make centerpieces and decorations for parties and celebrations. The prices depend on the labor and materials, but we do our best to be affordable.”
Hull says that she loves to create new products with upcycled materials to give them a new and improved look.
