Summer bus shuttle service on the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail begins Saturday, June 5th, in conjunction with National Trails Day, and will continue every Saturday through the summer season. The service is a partnership of the Bureau of Land Management and Lassen Rural Bus.
On Saturdays, the bus picks up passengers at 8:30a.m. at the Historic Susanville Railroad Depot, 601 Richmond Road and stops at the Devil’s Corral Trailhead along State Route 36 west of Susanville. This provides hikers, runners and bike riders with options for a 7-mile return trip to Susanville on the Bizz Johnson or Southside trails.
The BLM will shuttle bikes to Devil’s Corral. There are separate fees for the bus and for the bike shuttle.
There will not be an option this year for a return ride from Westwood to Susanville due to a fire-damage trail closure between the Devil’s Corral and Goumaz trailheads.
On weekdays, trail users can also use the Lassen Rural Bus West County Commuter service that picks up riders at the Main Street and North Gay Street intersection and on Riverside Drive near Walmart, both in Susanville, and can make stops at Devil’s Corral.
Complete fare and schedule information can be found on the Lassen Rural Bus’s website at www.lassentransportation.com, or by calling 530-252-7433.
