BLM Applegate Field Office in Alturas Closed for Remodeling

The Bureau of Land Management’s Applegate Field Office, 708 West 12th Street in Alturas, will be closed to the public for remodeling beginning Friday, April 28th until December 2023.

“The remodeled building will have improved parking and better access for vehicles with trailers,” said BLM Applegate Field Manager Craig Drake.

“A new interior layout will better meet the needs of our staff, and the exterior design will be a great improvement to the current building.”

BLM staff normally assigned to the Alturas office will work from the Surprise Field Station, 602 Cressler Street in Cedarville, or work remotely.

Phone calls to the Alturas office at 530-233-4666 will be routed to Cedarville, where a receptionist will be able to connect callers to BLM staff.

Those interested in purchasing maps can do so online at www.blm.gov/maps. Those needing firewood cutting permits can obtain them online at https://bit.ly/3ZYWjwE, or by visiting the office in Cedarville from Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The BLM staff have been working from the West 12th Street location since 1990. The Applegate Field Office oversees about 1.2 million acres of public lands, mostly in far northwest Nevada.
