Recent rains and a shift to cooler temperatures have reduced dry conditions and fire dangers in northeast California and far northwest Nevada, and the Bureau of Land Management will lift fire restrictions on public lands managed by the Eagle Lake and Applegate field offices effective Saturday, October 10th.
When restrictions are rescinded, campfires can again be used outside of developed campgrounds. Campfire permits are required. Restrictions on smoking and use of internal combustion engines off of roads and trails are also lifted. Use of chainsaws after 1:00p.m. will again be allowed.
The ban on outdoor burning will remain in effect until rescinded by CAL FIRE.
Even with reduced fire dangers, officials urge outdoor enthusiasts and homeowners to be careful with fire. Campers must fully extinguish campfires when leaving camp, leaving them cold to the touch. Wood cutters must have spark arresters on their chainsaws, and they should carry tools including shovels and fire extinguishers.
