BLM Update: Pit River Campground Remains Closed Due to Flood Damage

The Bureau of Land Management’s Pit River Campground, along the banks of the Pit River, remains closed to the public until the extensive flood damage to the recreational area can be fixed.

The raft and kayak launch and the lagoon are still flooded; damage to these areas will be assessed once the flood waters recede.

BLM crews are using heavy equipment to scrape the sediment left by the flood water and will be re-graveling the day-use area, as well as a couple of the campsites. The group area, host and five of the day-use campsites will have to be cleaned and repaired before they are usable.

Typically, the Pit River Campground opens in late April to coincide with the opening of California’s stream fishing season. The campground is five miles west of Fall River Mills, off State Highway 299, and is an ideal location for hiking, fishing, swimming, rafting and picnicking.

The BLM will provide Pit River Campground updates on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/blmcalifornia/, and Twitter at https://twitter.com/blmca.
