As of December 21st, Cal-FIRE’s Lassen Modoc Unit has officially transitioned out of peak fire season. This means, if you live in state responsibility areas within Lassen, Modoc or Plumas counties, you may burn without a permit after contacting your Air Pollution Control District to ensure it is a permissive burn day.
To find out if it is a burn day, contact your local Air Pollution Control District:
In Lassen County call (530) 257-2876 or 257-BURN.
In Modoc County call (530) 233-3436
In Plumas County use the following numbers:
- Portola: (530) 832-4528
- Quincy: (530) 283-3602
- Greenville: (530) 284-6520
- Chester: (530) 258-2588
You are responsible for maintaining control of your fire and must be in attendance while burning. Anyone allowing a fire to escape their control can be held criminally and civilly responsible.
Unit Chief Scott Packwood encourages residents to take advantage of winter months to reduce the fuels around their homes and property.
