Chief Cochran Explains Department’s Role in Dixie Shelter Incident

This story references an earlier SusanvilleStuff story.

Susanville Police Chief Ryan Cochran issued a statement late Thursday afternoon explaining his department’s role in an incident which took place at the Dixie Fire shelter at Lassen College Monday evening.

According to Chief Cochran, officers from the Susanville Police Department, while conducting emergency evacuation advisories, were dispatched to the shelter at about 6:30 after receiving a report that there was a disturbance involving an unknown number of people.

“The events that occurred subsequent to our arrival are currently under review,” explains Cochran. “The Police Department and its members understand these are emotional and trying times for everyone in our community and surrounding areas. We continue to stay committed to keep our city, our community members, and welcomed visitors safe while working in a professional and courteous manner.”

No arrests, citations or use-of-force was used and according to Cochran, officers were able to clear from the shelter and continue with their evacuation notifications in the city after a representative from Plumas County arrived.

Chief Cochran also asked that all questions related to shelter workers and management be directed to Lassen County Health and Social Services, who operate the Emergency Shelter, at (530) 250-9004.
