CHP: Chico Man Arrested After Highway 32 Crash

A Chico man was arrested for driving a motor vehicle while under the influence June 4th, after the pickup he was driving crashed into a tree in the Deer Creek Canyon on Highway 32.

According to the report from the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, at around 6:40p.m., 25-year-old Chico resident Jarred McCarty, was driving a 1998 Toyota pickup westbound on SR-32 in Tehama County near mile post marker 8.3 when he drove the Toyota to the right and exited the roadway, crashed with multiple milepost markers, rolled over to the right, and crashed into a tree.

The Toyota came to rest laying on its right side against the tree.

“McCarty was pinned inside the cab and he was extricated by Cal Fire personnel,” explains CHP Public Information Officer Bruce Thuelchassaigne, “McCarty was arrested for driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and he was transported by helicopter to Enloe Medical Center for possible major injuries.”

According to the report McCarty was not wearing his lap/shoulder harness at the time of the crash, which is still under investigation.
