A 45-year old Greenville man received minor injuries Thursday when his 2017 Ford F350 was struck by a falling rock on highway 36 just east of the highway 44 junction.
At around 12:45p.m., according to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol,  a man identified as John Yolton was driving west on the highway at around 55mph.
Yolton observed a large rock rolling off the embankment at the north side of the roadway, ahead of his course of travel. He made a turning movement to the left, attempting to avoid the falling rock. The rock rolled into the roadway, and collided with the truck’s right rear wheel.
The driver lost control of the F350 and it traveled across the oncoming traffic lane, exited the south road edge, and overturned on an ascending embankment south of the roadway.
The truck came to a rest on its passenger side at the south shoulder of State Route 36, facing east.
Passing motorists witnessed the collision and stopped to lend aid to the driver. CHP, Cal-Fire, SEMSA and Caltrans responded to the scene.
As a result of the collision Yolton suffered injuries to his head and neck and was transported from the scene by SEMSA Banner Lassen Medical Center.
The collision remains under investigation at this time.
