The Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol has released details of a September 6th single-vehicle traffic collision on Highway 44, near Pole Springs Road, that took the life of a Reno man.
According to the CHP’s report the driver of a 1999 Ford, identified as 53-year old Reno resident Christine York, was driving westbound on Highway 44 at approximately 65mph.
“She looked away from the roadway to pick up an object from the floor,” explained CHP Public Information Officer Kristin Wilburn. “She allowed the Ford to veer to the left across the eastbound lane and off the south road edge.”
York lost control of her vehicle along the dirt embankment and the vehicle overturned onto the roadway. Her passenger, who according to the CHP was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected out of the vehicle and onto the roadway. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
York suffered major injuries and was flown by air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center, in Redding.
Identification of the 56-year old Reno resident killed in the collision has been withheld pending notification of kin. The collision remains under investigation by CHP.
