CHP Incident: Reno Woman Killed in Icy Highway 44 Collision

A 28-year old Reno woman was killed December 23rd when the 2004 Nissan she was driving slid, out of control, across Highway 44 just east of the Shasta/Lassen county line and struck several large rocks.

According to details provided by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol the driver, identified as Reno resident Kailee Seal and her passenger, 32-year old Reno resident Cody McGeein, were westbound on the highway which had patches of packed snow and ice, at about 50mph.

McGeein was in the right front seat of the Nissan.

The Nissan lost traction on the highway and slid across the eastbound traffic lane and off of the south roadway edge where it struck a paddle marker before overturning into an area of large rocks.

Seal received fatal injuries as the driver’s door area struck the rocks twice during the rollover. The Nissan came to rest near a small tree on the side of the road.

Seal was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger side of the vehicle did not strike the rocks and McGeein was uninjured.
