The California Highway Patrol has released details behind a Monday evening traffic stop which lead to the subsequent arrest of a Susanville man on multiple drug-related charges.
According to the CHP report an officer from the agency observed a vehicle speeding eastbound on SR-36 west of SR-44 junction just after 10:00p.m. The officer turned around and, as he caught up with the vehicle, observed the registration was expired.
The officer conducted a traffic stop east of County Road A-1 at the brake check area. When he approached the vehicle, he smelled the odor of fresh marijuana emitting from within the vehicle.
The vehicle’s passenger, identified by the Highway Patrol as 48 year-old Susanville resident Eugene A. Stewart, informed the officer that he had some marijuana on his person.
The officer asked Mr. Stewart if he possessed a medical marijuana card and he told the officer he did, but did not have it on him. The officer was unable to confirm that Mr. Stewart possessed a valid prescription.
The officer performed a probable cause search of Mr. Stewart and located a large bag containing approximately 4 ounces of Crystal Methamphetamine, another large bag containing approximately 2 ounces of Crystal Methamphetamine, two other small bags of Methamphetamine and two medium size bags of marijuana in his backpack.
Items seized by the CHP included: Over 6 ounces of Crystal Methamphetamine, 1.5 ounces of Marijuana, Digital scale, 80 clear plastic baggies, Meth pipe, metal spoon, and a plastic straw.
Stewart was booked into the Lassen County Adult Detention Facility with a bail amount set at $35,000.
