The California Highway Patrol has released details surrounding a two-vehicle collision that injured six people on Highway 395 near Milford Monday evening.
According to the CHP, the driver of a 2001 Toyota Sequoia, identified as 36-year old Grants Pass resident Tawnya Malia Meyer, was driving northbound on US-395, north of Milford, with four juvenile passengers. Meyer lost control of her vehicle, and it began to slide and rotate as it entered the oncoming southbound lane of the highway.
As Meyer crossed into the southbound lane a 27-year old Reno resident, identified as Brandon Jude Brungardt, was driving his 2012 Chevrolet Impala south on US-395, with one adult female passenger.
Brungardt observed the northbound Toyota travel into the southbound lane, directly ahead of his course of travel. He was unable to avoid the out-of-control vehicle and the front right side of the Toyota collided with the front of the Chevrolet. The Toyota overturned, coming to rest on its passenger side, within the southbound lane and the Chevrolet came to rest on its wheels within the southbound lane.
Emergency Personnel from the SEMSA Ambulance, CAL-Fire, Janesville Fire District, Milford Fire, and California Highway Patrol responded to the incident.
As a result of the collision the driver of the Toyota sustained injuries which including a fractured leg. Responding emergency personnel used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver of the Toyota. All juvenile occupants of her vehicle were able to extricate themselves, complaining of minor injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet also extricated themselves from their vehicle, suffering minor injuries. All vehicle occupants were transported from the scene by ambulance.
The collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol and according to the agency all of the occupants of the two vehicles were using proper passenger restraints at the time of the collision.
The California Highway Patrol reminds drivers to slow down, and drive with caution in winter weather conditions.
