City Asking Water Customers to Continue Conservation Efforts

waterrestrictionsAs the 2016 irrigation season begins Susanville’s Public Works Department is asking city water customers continue their water conservation efforts.

Demand for water during the irrigation season is 3 to 4 times greater than winter and indoor water use, according to the department, and as a result our community conservation strategy relies on reduced water use during the irrigation season to achieve the bulk of the State mandated conservation. The strategy is designed to reduce outdoor water use by half.

According to Public Works Director Dan Newton the state has extended its emergency regulation through October 31st, 2016, and the revised regulation reduced the City’s conservation standard from 36% to 33%.

“Overall the community responded well to the call for conservation,” explained Newton in a Monday morning press release, “however, the city fell short of its conservation requirement.”

As a result of the conservation shortfall the state issued a Conservation Order, which included a condition requiring the city to drop to one day per week for watering. City management, however, was successful in having that condition removed from the conservation order.

The State has agreed to allow the City to continue watering three days per week.

  • Houses with even numbered addresses may water on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
  • Houses with odd numbered address may water on: Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.
