Construction using heavy equipment is scheduled to run October 17th through 30th at the Rice Canyon Off-Highway Vehicle Area near Susanville.
Additional work such as facility placement and trail maintenance will take place throughout November. Visitors are asked to use caution when riding or otherwise using the area.
In June, the California Department of Parks and Recreation Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division awarded grant funding to the Bureau of Land Management Eagle Lake Field Office to develop the existing 105-acre Rice Canyon OHV area 10 miles northeast of Susanville in Lassen County.
According to BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Marisa Williams, the project will enhance the connectivity and sustainability of OHV trails; install facilities such as picnic tables, OHV loading ramps, barriers and signs; and grade, gravel and improve access roads and parking areas.
The grant funding will allow the field office to update the popular OHV area that provides visitors with both novice riding and a steep hill climb motorcycle riding experience.
