Dangerous Conditions on Local Waterways Force Postponement of Jr. Fishing Derby

Out of concern for participants, because of fast-moving and dangerously high water on the Susan River and Paiute Creek, the Lassen Sportsmens Club has been forced to postpone the 28th Annual Derby originally set for Saturday, April 22nd.

“We want to assure the many sponsors and the youth of our community that the committee will be meeting to plan a more appropriate time to hold the derby,” explained spokesperson Jim Chapman. “If the waters begin to recede, it is hoped that the derby could be re-scheduled for sometime in the next 4 to 8 weeks.”

The Junior Fishing Derby committee will hold a special meeting on Thursday, April 27th, to assess the situation and determine when a rescheduled derby would be held.

“We invite those in the community who wish to assist the committee to join us at that time,” said Chapman.
