Two Mexican immigrants were arrested Sunday, and more than 1,300 marijuana plants seized, after a Lassen County Sheriff’s Deputy and a BLM Ranger chanced upon a grow-operation near Little Valley in northwestern Lassen County.

On Saturday, June 1st, a Sheriff’s Deputy and a Ranger for the BLM were on patrol when they came upon a residence that appeared to be vacant, and surrounded by marijuana plants in plain sight. Further investigation revealed several hundred marijuana plants were on the property.

“Members of the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and Narcotics Task Force responded and a search warrant was prepared for the property,” explained Detective Sergeant Kevin Jones, “Volunteer Reserve Deputies played an important role in the investigation by securing the site overnight while the investigation continued.”

When the search warrant was served on June 2nd Sheriff’s Deputies found over 1,300 marijuana plants, portable power generators, fertilizer and irrigation supplies.

According to Detective Sergeant Jones, 29 year-old Jose Morfin and 24 year-old Jose Zavala, both Mexican immigrants, were arrested and booked into the Lassen County Jail. Morfin and Zavala are also being held on out of county warrants.
