The Lassen Humane Society is reporting that it continued to accomplish its mission during the 2020 calendar year despite COVID-19 derailing all of the group’s usual fundraising efforts.
“Through donations and the community’s generous support of our collection boxes located throughout the local area, we were able to spay and neuter all Lassen County Animal Shelter cats and dogs prior to their adoption, and we offered a financial assistance spay/neuter program,” explains Humane Society President Chris Geffre.
The Society contributed $21,569 to spaying and neutering Lassen County cats and dogs last year.
“In other words, we were able to help spay or neuter over 250 dogs and cats, which reduces the number of unwanted puppies and kittens being produced.”
An additional $19,969 was spent on other medical expenses for emergency cases as determined by the local veterinarians, and for Pups on Parole expenses.
Pups on Parole took 54-dogs that need additional time or medical attention from the animal shelter, got them ready for adoption and placed them in loving homes.
Lassen Humane Society is a 100 percent volunteer program. Every penny that Lassen Humane Society receives goes, in some way, to allow the group to assist Lassen County pets.
“We assist the animal shelter in insuring animals are safe and comfortable if they are dropped off there, after hours, having provided the kennel drop-off area in front of the shelter, as just one example.”
“We hope to again be back in the community with our fundraising activities in the near future. Then we can once again offer a spay/neuter assistance program for Lassen County residents.”
