Don’t be Alarmed: Fire Department and Cal-FIRE Doing River Cleanup Project

A SFD provided graphic showing the closure area during the project

City Fire Chief James Moore is letting local residents know that they don’t have to be alarmed if they see smoke in the middle of town over the next week, as the Susanville Fire Department will be working closely with Cal-FIRE’s Lassen Modoc Unit, conducting a fuels reduction project at the Susan River Parkway.

Phase 1, according to Chief Moore, will consist of vegetation clean-up, tree pruning, and removing dead and dying flammable materials.

The second phase of the project will consist of a controlled broadcast burn by fire crews from Cal-FIRE and SFD on the eastern portion of the city’s property.

The Parkway will be closed to the public beginning today, April 21st, through next Friday, April 28th.

Moore also asked drivers to please use caution while travelling through area.
