Our resident meteorological expert, Dr. Owen Bateson, checks in this morning with a look at moisture totals for the month of April.
According to Dr. Bateson we received 1.9 inches of rain and our average for the month is 1.16 inches, placing us at 164% of average for the month.
“However,” Bateson cautions, “we still have only received 13.61 inches for the year, which is only 70% of average for this date.”
“Honey lake looks completely dry; Eagle lake is around one foot lower this year than last year on the same date and there is so little snow for a runoff that Pine creek has started and stopped several times so far, mostly running in response to rainfall received.”
If Eagle Lake drops its usual 2.07 feet this summer, it could go as low as 5094.2 feet which is a level that we have not seen since 1951.
