Fall Color Tour on the Lassen National Forest

The fall colors are returning for their annual display in Northeastern California and the Almanor Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest will be offering you a chance to see them up close with an interpretive driving tour next Friday, October 21st.

Participants will have the opportunity to not only view fall colors, but to learn from the experts how to best photograph trees and foliage in the forest.

You can never really predict the best time to view the changing leaves, but this year it looks as though the tour will come about right at the peak of the season.

The interpretive tour will involve traveling dirt roads to visiting the area of Ruffa Ranch where there are great stands of Aspen.

From the ranch the tour will continue a short way down Highway 36 to see if the red color of Indian Rhubarb is on display. Other locations could be added depending on where fall colors are putting on a show.

The group will be meeting at the Almanor Ranger District office located across from the airport in Chester at 8:00a.m. and return between 3:00 and 4:00p.m. Some driving will occur on gravel roads so carpooling in SUVs or high-clearance vehicles will help keep the number of vehicles to a minimum.

Participants are advised to bring a camera (any kind is ok), a tripod (optional), lunch, water, warm clothing and a full tank of gas.

For more information about the tour, please contact Barbara Jackson at 530.258.2141. Sign-ups with contact information will be required, as inclement weather could cause the tour to be canceled.
