Farmer’s Market Spotlight: Last Chance of the Season!

Every Blooming Thing’s Kitchen Crew

by Hannah Tangeman

Sunny, ripe multi-colored tomatoes fresh off the vine, spicy jalapeño peppers, melons of every shape and flavor, cucumbers yellow and green, intense purple eggplants, crispy cabbages, squash of many flavors, basil, sweeter than sweet corn both yellow and white, tender beans, savory onions, strawberries, yes, strawberries, bison steaks, cured meats, chicken, beef and lamb are a sample of the huge offering of farmer raised produce available that I filled my larder with last Saturday morning at the Lassen Land and Trails trust market.

Sadly this amazing season of fruits and vegetables is soon to end with the final market of the 2013. So bring your shopping bag and be prepared to enjoy that unrivaled last tomato that you know you won’t taste again til next summer. Be ready to hoard onions and corn. Fill your freezer with meats that are healthy and local.

Corn so sweet you can’t wait to eat it

Of course, the baked goods will catch your eye, at Grandma Schrocks kitchen whether it be a sweet pie or a savory loaf of homemade bread. They do the baking – you do the eating.

If there is a bit of breeze in the air, head over to Mart’s booth where you will find warm and cozy scarves to wrap your neck in comfort.

Judy Ashbaugh, will help you with your holiday shopping list, where you can find custom jewelry for your friends and family.

Truly your last chance for fresh and local wares.
Join your friends at the Saturday Farmers Market from 8 to noon at the historic Lassen Land and Trails Trust Railroad depot on Richmond Road.
