What a difference a summer makes! Tomatoes that have reached the rafters of Trails End Farm hoop house demonstrating the production that has resulted from sunshine and water in their naturally grown protocol. Their wooden baskets of sweet multi-colored tomato gems have raised the bar to a new level of flavor at their booth at the Lassen Land and Trails Trust Saturday Famers Market.
Early this spring, their planting hugged their knees but now they have filled every available overhead space with vines of cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, and sweet peas. The underplantings of basil, parsley, chards, and lettuces co-mingle in good company.
Their outside fields of strawberries, squash, melons, sweet (very sweet) corn, sunflowers, and sorghum were the space their pasture raised poultry grew, chased bugs and sprouts of green grass.
This will be their last week to have fresh never frozen whole and cut up chickens. They, of course, will have frozen ones in the following weeks. No chicken can rival the juiciness and flavor of Meadows local birds.
Trails End Farm illustrates the family farm in action, as they team to bring you the freshest vegetables grown without herbicides or pesticides. Their children graze upon its bounty daily as they help their parents pick produce and feed the chicks.
