Fire Department Releases Details of Meadowbrook Apartment Complex Fire


The Susanville Fire Department is releasing details of last week’s structure fire at the Meadowbrook apartment complex on Roop Street.

According to the report the first firefighters on-scene at the early morning blaze reported heavy fire coming from a bottom floor apartment window and extending to the second floor apartment. Firefighting efforts contained the fire to the apartment of origin and the second floor apartment directly above.

Damage to the structure consisted of heavy fire damage to the bottom floor apartment and moderate to heavy damage in the upper apartment. Smoke damage was also noted throughout the apartments immediately adjacent to the involved apartments.

Displaced occupants were assisted and relocated by the local Red Cross.

There were 12 fire apparatus and 24 firefighters on scene to battle the blaze and no firefighter injuries were reported. Four residents of the complex were treated for smoke inhalation and one was transported to Banner Lassen Medical Center for further care.

Susanville Fire Department was assisted by the following agencies: Susan River Fire Protection District, Lassen County OES, Janesville FPD, Cal Fire, Susanville Police Dept., Lassen County Sherriff’s Dept, Susanville Gas Department, LMUD and the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
