Five outstanding players from Lassen County recently had the chance to compete in the ninth annual Northern Section Jr. High All-Star game at Chico Jr. High School, where the top 60 players from thirty-seven different northern California schools competed for the title of best in the state.
Representing the eighth-grade division and playing for the North was Parker Langslet from Richmond and Josh Mack from Diamond View. In the seventh-grade division and playing for the North was Tucker Whitworth from Richmond, Landon Kirack from Diamond View and Andrew Alcaraz from Johnstonville.
Landon Kirack was awarded the MVP trophy for the 7th grade division.
The thirty-seven teams were divided into North and South squads, North representing schools from Red Bluff north to the Oregon border, South squad representing school south of Red Bluff to Arbuckle.
According to tournament director, Scott Kelly, being one of the best means that your player can play basketball but also fits the following criteria as outlined to all coaches.
“Players should not only possess above average basketball skill and IQ but also be coachable and exhibit respect for the game, teammates, opponents, coaches and officials.”
“We take these criteria very seriously and appreciate the selection process honoring players that exhibit these traits.”
