The Lassen National Forest Almanor Ranger District remains optimistic that they will open Almanor North and South campgrounds in early to mid-June. A contractor began the removal of hazard trees on May 17th.
Since initially identifying hazard trees, approximately 40 more trees have died. The contractor and Almanor Ranger District are working together diligently to address the threats that these trees pose to public safety. Because of the large scale and amount of work to complete the removal of hazard trees, the Almanor North and South campgrounds will be closed for Memorial Day weekend.
Campgrounds that are currently open include the Legacy campground at Lake Almanor, Gurnsey Creek, Soldier Meadows, Warner Creek, Elam, Alder, Potato Patch, Cherry Hill and Butte Meadows. The Canyon Dam and Lake Almanor Boat Launches are also open.
Please contact your local Forest Service Office for the most current forest road and recreation area conditions.
