Four Arizona Residents Injured After Losing Control on Icy Highway 44

A single-vehicle collision on an ice covered Highway 44 west of Susanville Saturday sent four Arizona residents to Banner Lassen with injuries after the driver of the 2015 Chevrolet lost control at around 80 miles an hour, striking a stump, becoming airborne and smashing into a tree.

According to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, at about 7:20a.m., their Communication Center received a report that a red SUV had collided with a tree on SR-44.

Upon arrival emergency personnel located four people, all suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision.

During the collision investigation, it was determined that the driver of the SUV, identified by the CHP as 20-year old Prescott, Arizona resident Kelly Purvis, was driving at approximately 75 to 80 miles per hour on the snow and ice covered road when she lost control.

The SUV left the roadway, collided with a large stump, went airborne and struck a tree.

All four occupants were transported to Banner Medical Center then later to Renown. Injuries ranged from head injuries to internal trauma.
