Frank Joseph Faure, Jr. born at Potter’s Maternity Home in Susanville on June 13, 1945 passed away peacefully at Banner Lassen Hospital on April 12, 2024. Frank was proceeded in death by his parents-Frank & Maudie, his sisters, Paulyne & Francis and his daughter in-law, Holly.
Frank, also known as Butch, spent most of his life in Susanville. He graduated from Lassen High School in 1963, spent the summer haying then joined the Army. He served at the Preciado in San Francisco 6th Army Honor Guard. He returned home in 1965, working for his father in the glass and radiator business. Other than a short time spent in 1968-1969 in Sacramento, Susanville was home.
Frank liked the outdoors and helping his children with their many 4-H and FFA projects. He landscaped the property, built the barn & fences, added a covered wrap around porch to the house, and maintained the dirt road in our neighborhood. Growing up and raising his children he liked to fish, hunt, explore the desert, camp and travel a bit.
Frank always said he was “a Jack of all trades, and he was pretty darn good at all of them. He drove truck-delivery, belly dump, cement mixer, refrigerated, transport…short and long line. He did all forms of construction-remodeling including commercial buildings, roofing, foundations, sidewalks, plumbing, landscaping, sheet rock, tape, texture, and painting. His many businesses included Frank’s Glass & Radiator Co, Valley Plumbing Supply Co., Frank’s Custom Concrete, Papa Butch’s BBQ. Besides being in business for himself or doing sub-contracting in the construction field; he also worked for Cal Trans, Lassen County and City of Susanville.
Frank had met his wife, Kareen, at the Lassen County Fair in 1962. They wed in December 1965. The union bore 3 children-Frank III, Michael and Kathryn. The week before Frank’s passing he was visited by all 3 children, all 10 grandchildren and 3 of his 6 great grandchildren as well as other members of the family. They traveled from New York, Louisiana, Illinois, Colorado, Nevada and Susanville to spend time with him. He was able to listen to stories and smile his pleasure at their telling.
Frank was a very knowledgeable, hardworking, lovable man He was always active; unfortunately, the last few years he had been hampered by macular degeneration and Parkinson’s. They finally overcame him.
We want to give a special thank you to the nursing staff at Banner Lassen for the care we all received during Frank’s stay. I want to especially mention Jonathan, Kim and Tammy.
Interment and a memorial will be held at a later date.
