The Lassen County Historical Society welcomed history buffs to the museum’s annual open house on the lawn at Roop’s Fort last Friday night. This year the focus of the event was the unveiling of a brand new sign in front of the fort chronicling the cabin’s 160 years and its venerable place in local history.
On hand for the event were local Boys Scouts who performed a ceremony to retire the American flag which flies above the fort.
Marka Hemphill, head of the organization’s scholarship committee, announced the recipient of this year’s scholarship, Big Valley high school senior Araceli Bautista. Bautista was unable to attend because she was on a school trip and the scholarship award was accepted by her very proud mother.
