Wow. There are an amazing number of things going on in town this weekend to get you into the holiday spirit.
Starting at 4:00 this afternoon and continuing tomorrow at the Lassen County Fairgrounds it’s the annual Holiday Craft Fair.
This is a great place to go shopping for those unique Christmas gifts as more than 50 vendors display their holiday wares just for you.
Jensen Hall and the Commercial, Floral and Art Buildings will be filled to overflowing with handmade crafts.
There’s no end to the variety as you can find everything from pottery, jewelry and decorative paintings to gourmet Olive Oil, homemade BBQ sauces and Native American Shadow Boxes.
Year after year the Holiday Craft Fair has been a mecca for shoppers trying to find that perfect gift for a special someone on their list.
Artisan crafters from all over the west coast will be in attendance.
Lassen Family Services will be at the fairgrounds holding their “Hobby Craft Fair” featuring handmade items created by inmates, with proceeds going to benefit victims of violent crimes.
The Holiday Craft Fair starts tonight at 4:00 o’clock and goes until 8:00. Tomorrow the fair runs from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. For more information call the fair office at 251.8809
Tonight and Sunday at the Assembly of God Church on Richmond Road the Susanville Symphony will be performing their annual Christmas Concert under the direction of Benjamin Wade.
The performance will also feature powerful Russian Christmas music by Alfred Reed, and Bach’s Ave Maria will be sung by Deb Sokol, a regular soloist and audience favorite.
The Symphony promises, “an unforgettable evening of holiday and classical melodies.”
Performances will be held at the Assembly of God Church on Richmond Road both tonight and Sunday. Tonight’s concert will start at 7:00 and Sunday’s performance starts at 2:30. Pick up your tickets today at Leslie’s Jewelry, 700 Main Street, or call 257-2920 for more information.
Search and Rescue will be kicking off their annual toy drive bright and early Saturday, setting up next to the Elk’s Lodge to accept new unwrapped toys for the “Toys for Tots” drive, from 8am to 8pm.
Santa Clause is coming to town!
The Lassen County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Magical Country Christmas Celebration will be held Saturday in Historic Uptown Susanville.
The chamber invites you to, “Bring the entire family to welcome the holiday season and enjoy the celebration that will include dance and musical performances, a lighted Christmas parade, food, tree lighting and fireworks to ring in the Christmas season.”
The Lassen County Arts Council will hold their annual “Chocolate Festival” beginning at 5pm. The Elks Lodge Taco Feed will be held from 5 to 8:30pm.
Main Street will be closed to thru traffic during the celebration. Uptown merchants will be open late for holiday shopping and many will offer special sales and promotions in honor of this celebration.
All December long the Lassen County Fair will again be hosting its spectacular ‘Holiday Festival of Lights’ exhibition at the fairgrounds.
This will be the seventh year for the holiday displays, built by different local groups, organizations and individuals for the public to drive through and ‘oooooh and ahhhhhhh’ at during the season.
Last year on Christmas Eve more than 130 vehicles full of holiday revelers passed through the fairgrounds to see the lights.
Each season the displays at the festival grow larger and more complex.
Fair manager Jim Wolcott says, “It is just a great thing to do for the community and to see everyone come together and participate in.“
