Holiday Season Begins This Week With Lots Planned in Lassen County

Santa’s Grand Entrance in the Magical Country Christmas parade

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Susanville and the next few weeks are packed with event after event to help celebrate the season. Craft fairs, fireworks, parades, live performances and the festival of lights are just a few of the fun things on the calendar. 

Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot

Start working off Thanksgiving dinner a little early and help out a great local organization as the Bizz Running Company hosts the 6th Annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot on November 22nd.

Families and children are encouraged to participate in this fun 3.1 mile race which will begin promptly at 8:30a.m. at Lassen Superior Courthouse, 2610 Riverside Drive in Susanville. There is no cost to enter, however, participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or donation for Lassen Senior Services.

Susanville Assembly of God Church Christmas Bazaar
On Friday, November 30th from 4:00 until 8:00p.m. and on Saturday, December 1st from 9:00 to 3:00p.m., at 473-465 Richmond Road.

Eagle Lake Village Christmas Craft Faire
Saturday, December 1st: Eagle Lake Village Christmas Craft Faire. Crafts, jewelry and an assortment of holiday items will be available from 10:00a.m. until 2:00p.m. at 2001 Paul Bunyan Road. For more information, please contact Mindie at (530) 257-6673.

CHP Stuff the Sleigh
On December 1st you can help feed a family for Christmas by joining the Susanville Office of the California Highway Patrol and the Susanville Salvation Army in collecting food for their Christmas Food Program.Needed items include: Frozen turkey, cranberry sauce, canned pumpkin, canned yams, stuffing, evaporated milk, pie crust, mac and cheese, jelly, canned dinners and hamburger helper.

Santa will be on hand to take awesome pictures with the kids, don’t forget to bring your camera! Bring your items to the Grocery Outlet parking lot on Main Street in Susanville between 9:00a.m. and 2:00p.m.

Christmas at the Ranch
Christmas at the Ranch. Shop for unique Christmas gifts from local crafters at the Doyle Ranch Gift Shop. Crafters, Bakers and Candy Makers Craft Faire
Crafters, Bakers and Candy Makers Craft Faire will be on December 1st from 9:00a.m. until 4:00p.m., at the Doyle Senior Building, Doyle Loop. Come and shop locally for towels, blankets, hats and pot holders, ceramics and clocks, flashlights, ornaments, jewelry, paintings, fudge, nuts, brittles, breads and cakes. Doyle Days will serve chili/chili dogs or soup for lunch from 11:00. Herlong High Basketball Team will be selling fresh cut Christmas trees.  Please call 827-2888 or 269-3402 for more information.

Blue Star Moms Old Fashion Country Christmas Crafts Faire
On both Friday, November 30th  and Saturday, December 1st the Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms Old Fashioned Country Christmas Craft Faire will be held at the Lassen High School Student Center 5:00 – 8:00p.m. Friday and Saturday 8:00 – 3:00p.m. The funds from the booth spaces will go to the Blue Star Moms to assist them with their activities on behalf of our military. There will be ornaments, wood, glass, ceramics, needlepoint, jewelry and a host of other unique gifts to buy.

Magical Country Christmas
The Magical Country Christmas in Uptown Susanville. The biggest holiday celebration in Lassen County will be held Saturday,  December 1st from 5:00 – 7:00p.m., in Historic Uptown Susanville. Come and enjoy a parade, live entertainment, food and beverages. Santa will make his grand entrance and fireworks will be set off as the big tree at the top of Main Street is lit.

Festival of Lights
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning December 1st the Lassen County Fair is hosting its ‘Holiday Festival of Lights’ exhibition at the fairgrounds.

The displays are built by different local groups, organizations and individuals for the public to drive through and ‘oooooh and ahhhhhhh’ at during the season. The massive display of holiday cheer is also a stop on the annual Senior Light Tour.

Friday and Saturday gates are open 5:00 – 9:00p.m. On Sunday, gates are open 5:00 – 8:00p.m. with two extra days Monday, December 24th from 5:00 – 10:00 and Tuesday, December 25th from 5:00 – 9:00p.m. Please note, Friday, December 7th no cars, walk through only. Drive thru the fairway and see holiday light displays. Donations are accepted.

Westwood Area Chamber of Commerce Holiday Bazaar
Westwood Area Chamber’s Annual Holiday Bazaar will be held on Sunday, December 2nd at the Westwood Community Center at 3rd and Birch Streets from 11:00a.m. until 4:00p.m. You’ll find local vendors selling crafts, jewelry, Scentsy, collectibles, essential oils, food and so much more.

Susanville City Kickettes Christmas Extraordinaire
On December 8th at 6:00p.m. and December 9th at 4:00p.m. in the Veteran’s Memorial Hall. Featuring the J and J Dancers. For more information visit www.jandjperformingarts.com. Tickets available at J and J Performing Arts, Margie’s Book Nook and Zaengles Carpet One.

McKinley School PTA Presents Breakfast with Santa

McKinley School PTA Presents Breakfast with Santa, Saturday, December 8th from 8:00 to 11:00a.m. Breakfast and photos with Santa will be in the McKinley School Multi-Purpose Room. The cost is $5.00 per person or $20 per family, breakfast, photo with Santa, Christmas activities and crafts included. Craft and vendor fair is from 8:00 until 12:00p.m., the Book Fair will be on December 8th from 8:00 – 11:00a.m. and December 10th through the 14th from 8:30 – 4:00p.m., in the McKinley School Library.

Fairgrounds Craft Fair
The Lassen County Fair’s annual Holiday Craft Fair is a huge two-day event featuring everything from hand-crafted wooden toys to homemade maple syrup and steam punk jewelry. It is the perfect place to shop for that hard-to-buy-for person on your Christmas shopping list. Crafters fill up several buildings on the fairgrounds with great gift ideas.

This year Santa will be on hand for pictures with the kids. Remember to bring your camera for a great photo opportunity. The show opens on Friday, December 7th from 4:00 to 8:00p.m. and on Saturday, December 8th doors will be open from 10:00 to 3:00p.m.

Victims of Crime Hobby Craft Fair
Also at the fairgrounds is the 29th annual Lassen Family Services and the California Correctional Center Victims of Crime Hobby Craft Fair.

You can find something for everyone while helping out a good cause; clocks, toys, belt buckles, redwood jewelry boxes, benches, picnic tables and a wooden locomotive playhouse are just some of the handmade items.

Camp inmates donated their own time and supplies to produce craft items.

All of the donated hobby crafts will be on sale at the fairgrounds Friday and Saturday as part of the Lassen County Fair’s holiday craft fair; on Friday, December 7th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 8th from 10:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Christmas in the Mountains
Westwood celebrates the holidays Friday night, December 7th, with Christmas in the Mountains. Come rain, shine or snow, everyone is invited to the community center at 5:00p.m. Santa will arrive on the Fire Truck in the Light Parade. Children can sit on Santa’s lap so bring your cameras for a photo opportunity.

Complimentary hot chocolate and cookies from the Westwood Chamber of Commerce. Westwood Family Resource Center will be giving away books. Free crafts for kids and vendors outside. Fun for everyone.
