Jack Jacobs
A Life Well Lived
Jack Arthur Jacobs passed away peacefully after a brief illness on February 8, 2020, surrounded by family and close friends. He was born in Oakland California on August 29, 1934. He attended Emeryville High and after high school joined the Air Force and served in Korea. After returning from the military he married his high school sweetheart Janet Graham, and they later had 2 children, John and Laura. They moved to Southern California where he drove bread trucks for several bakeries and also worked as a Realtor. Later moving back to Northern California, he again returned to driving bread trucks for most of his career, and finally into Property Management from which he retired. After losing his first wife, Jack married Pat Purcell and later divorced. When he retired from Property Management he moved to Susanville California where he again started working, first as an Associate at Walmart in the Sporting Goods department. He later went to work at the Juvenile Detention Facility as a Juvenile Detention Officer. He had to leave there due to health issues and began working at Lassen Family Services in the Women’s Shelter, where he worked until Jan 10, 2020. During this time, he met the love of his life, Wendy Wentworth, they were married on May 28, 2011 and were happily married until his passing.
Jack was always focused on helping people and served as a Child Advocate in Concord, California and also worked the Suicide Hotline. He enjoyed his time at the Lassen Juvenile Hall helping troubled youth. He also served as a Peer Counselor at Lassen Family Services and served on the Lassen County Grand Jury.
He was active in the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Shriner’s, serving as a Parade Clown.
He loved to hunt and fish and taught Hunter Safety with his son John. He went fishing whenever possible with his wife Wendy.
He leaves behind wife Wendy Jacobs, her son Jon and daughter in law, Andrea Wentworth, grandchildren Andrew and Alyson, his son John Jacobs and daughter in law, Barbara, grandchildren Lisa (Pickens) and Nicole (Reyes), great grandchildren Alexis and Rylan Pickens, and Little Jack Reyes, daughter Laura and Sean Farwell, grandchildren Forrest and Frankie, great grandchildren Tucker, Preslee, Adam, Rachel, and Colleen, stepdaughter Cady Schroeder, and granddaughters Jessica and Rachael. And countless others who he considered to be family.
Most recently Jack was honored in receiving the first Jack Jacobs Award for his compassion, dedication and humor from Lassen Family Services.
Celebration of Life Services will be held April 11, 2020, one o’clock at the Lassen Masonic Hall at 84 Lassen Street in Susanville California.
