James Darrell Vermillion—May 13, 1932 – October 26, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of Darrell Vermillion of Janesville, California announce his passing on October 26, 2024 at the age of 92.
Darrell was born on May 13, 1932 in Davis Creek, California to George and Edna Vermillion; he was number 9 of 12 children. He graduated from Cedarville High School in 1950, sold his horse and married the love of his life Pat White. They celebrated 74 years together on Oct 6th. In 1972, they moved to Janesville and have resided here since. They are members of the Church of Christ where he served as an Elder and Treasurer for many years.
Darrell worked for the Susanville School District as maintenance, custodian, and warehouse manager at McKinley Elementary for 28+ years. Only retiring due to a shoulder injury.
Darrell is survived by his wife Pat, their 3 children, Vickie (Greg) Oliver of Yuba City, Jim ‘Barry’ (Marie) Vermillion of Vian, OK and Gina Johnson of Janesville. Eight grandchildren and spouses, 21 great grand children and spouses AND 11 great great grandchildren. One brother Roy Vermillion of Oakridge OR, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Lucky Johnson, grandson Drew Johnson and great grandson Eric Johnson.
You could always find Darrell working on his 2 acres. Cutting and splitting wood, his last day to split wood was on Oct 3rd. If there was a card game going on he was at the table or playing Rummikub. He loved to hunt, fish, get wood, and family adventures.
