Kenneth “Mike” Green – January 10, 2023

Kenneth “Mike” Green, 78, of Susanville, CA, passed away January 10, 2023, at his daughter’s home in Oregon. He was surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. Mike was born in Reno, NV, September 2, 1944. He grew up in Susanville raised by his grandparents, Buck and Lula Shuman. He graduated Lassen High School in 1963 and remained close with his high school buddies, often meeting up to hunt, fish, and throw one back with his lifelong friends.

After high school, Mike joined the Air Force, then returned to Susanville, where he met the love of his life, Jan Langley, his wife of 53 years (married November 15, 1969). He attended Lassen College and worked for the U.S. Forest Service and retired after more than 25 years working as an engineer.

Mike is survived and missed by his loving wife Jan and his two daughters, Andrea Green of San Francisco, CA and Angela Wright of Silverton, OR. He will be forever cherished and remembered by his three grandsons, Tyler and Kellen Wright, and Emmett Todd. Mike enjoyed taking his grandsons fishing during the summer and taught them how to reel in their first catches.

Mike had an unquenchable thirst for friendship, sports, and the outdoors. He was an avid 49ers fan and never missed a game on tv. He enjoyed connecting with friends, particularly at the T&A Lounge, and could often be found sharing a laugh with old friends. He enjoyed competitive card games with his family, and was quite a sore loser when his daughter, Angela, beat him in a game of cribbage. Sitting around a card table with friends and family playing pinochle, with a solid hand in his right hand and a cold Budweiser in the left was his idea of heaven. Mike and Jan had an annual summer ritual of meeting up with lifelong friends, Ken and Tina Haws, Glenn and Michelle Wells, Bill and Tony Terrill, and Ron and Sharon Chittock, along with other friends. In his retirement he purchased an RV and made many good memories camping with his wife and friends.

Mike was known for his outrageous sense of humor and always had his friends and family in stitches. There are many hilarious quotes that can be remembered by those close to him, but unfortunately, most of them aren’t appropriate for print. Both daughters say the best trait of theirs came from their dad, his witty dry sense of humor.

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life party at the T&A Lounge in Susanville, CA on Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 11:00 am-2:00 pm.
