Lake 4H and Susanville Supermarket IGA Make Art for a Cause

foodbarn1What started out as a neat project also became an object lesson in economics for the members of the Lake 4H club who have been hard at work building a very unique fair display this week.

In the 4H display rooms under the grandstand the 4H’ers built a barn almost six feet tall, surrounded by grassy fields, cows grazing and made entirely out of non-perishable food items that Lake 4H will donate to the Lassen Modoc Food Shelf.

The kids raised $500 and went to work, quickly finding out that their budget wasn’t nearly enough to build the 4H display they had envisioned. That’s where Rick Stewart and Todd Eid from Susanville Supermarket IGA stepped in, contributing another $900 in food to help Lake 4H finish the project.

The end result is phenomenal. Make sure to stop by the 4H display next week at the Lassen County Fair to see it in person!
