671 current and former Lassen College students will find a pleasant surprise in their inbox this month as the college has cleared all unpaid student debts that were incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes any student debts accrued between the 2020 Spring semester and the Fall 2022 semester.
The debt clearance action was made possible through a federal COVID-19 relief program.
“LCC applied for and was awarded funds as part of the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund,” explains Lassen College PIO Julie Johnston.
“After closely monitoring the financial need of students, LCC elected to use a large portion of these funds to address student debt.”
“LCC understands that many current and former students have faced and continue to face financial hardships. The college chose to clear $335,334.69 of past student debt which positively impacted 671 students…”
“Students who have had their debts repaid by the college are warmly invited to re-enroll in 2023 and beyond,” added Annika Peacock, the college’s Outreach Coordinator.
“All holds on enrollment for debts incurred between 2020 and 2022 have been lifted.”
As part of an ongoing community engagement initiative, Lassen College is hosting a re-enrollment workshop on its campus between 9:00a.m. and 2:00p.m. on January 11th.
Students who re-enroll at the college after an absence of one or more semesters are eligible to receive a bookstore voucher of $500 for books, school supplies, and meals in the Cougar Café.
