On Saturday, May 17th, students of the Lassen College Fire Science program got together in order to clean up an area of the local forest that was allocated to theĀ program for training purposes. The cleanup crew consisted of 12Ā students, Fire Science instructor Chad Lawson and Public Safety Training Facility Director Dave Trussell.
The cleanup area was more than a mileĀ into the wilderness offĀ Eagle Lake Road and contained a large accumulation of litter that had been dumped including furniture, appliances, tires and other debris used in firing ranges as well as empty containers and trash.
Three trucks and a trailer were used to haul away the garbage in approximately 3 hours.
After the completion of the cleanup and dump runs to the Bass Hill Land Fill, the group rendezvoused back at the Public Safety Training Facility and held a tri tip barbecue for students and staff to attend. The barbecue was held to reward those students who participated in cleaning up of the forest as well as to celebrate the conclusion of the 2014 Fire Science program spring semester.
A special thank you is owed to Lassen Solid Waste Management for allowing the Fire Science program students to dump for free and to all those who took the time to help make this happen.
