Lassen Community College opened up it’s campus to both firefighters and evacuees last week as the Sheep Fire displaced thousands of residents across the valley. The college, already serving as the County’s COVID-19 response center, was just beginning its fall semester when the 30,000 acre Sheep Fire began on August 17th.
The is the second large fire of the season and the college has been busy hosting the local OES team and evacuation centers, feeding and housing firefighters, all while prepping the campus for fall instruction.
LCC President Trevor Albertson said that accommodating the fire activity required an enormous effort on the part of college staff.
“We are proud of our team and recognize their individual commitment to our community and our students,” said Albertson.
“We find that much of our strength comes from knowing our community is like family and we’re all in this together. We would like to thank our agency partners Lassen County Public Health, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Lassen County Social Services, and CAL FIRE.”
