Lassen County 4H Ambassador’s Corner – 4H News from Around the County

I hope you all are having a great summer and keeping cool in this heat! July is fair month, which means a busy time for all 4-H and FFA members who are showing animals at fair.

Many other 4-H members are entering still exhibits to the fair. 4-H is much more than just animals! Still exhibits include arts, crafts, quilting, sewing, photography, table settings, and many more items. You can see those exhibits in Jensen Hall during fair.

Fair starts Wednesday, July 21st, and ends on Sunday, July 25th.

While there is a lot to do and see I am asking you to please come watch kids show their animals. There is a good chance you know someone who will be showing an animal at fair.

Starting on Wednesday, market lambs show in the morning followed by market goats right after. While lambs are showing, poultry is also showing in the poultry barn. Thursday is the swine show. They are fun to watch.

Thursday is also kiddies day, bring elementary aged kids down to enjoy some activities.

Friday is the beef show in the livestock pavilion and rabbits and cavy (Guinea pigs) show in the rabbit barn. Friday afternoon, mini moos and dairy cows show in the afternoon. Small Animal Master Showmanship is Friday night in the rabbit barn.

Saturday morning is the dairy goat show. Then on Saturday afternoon, it is Large Animal Master Showmanship. Master Showmanship is where 4H and FFA members who place first in advanced showmanship for a species has to show all the animals in the category.

Small Animal Master Showmanship includes rabbits, cavy, and poultry and Large Animal Master Showmanship includes beef, market lambs, market goats, dairy cows, swine, and dairy goats. The junior livestock auction will be Sunday, July 25th. Come down to the fair and see all the still and livestock exhibits!

The day before fair, July 20th, 4-H will be holding our yearly barbecue fundraiser. Tickets are available at the fair office or you can buy them from a 4-H member you know.

Presale tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for kids. Some tickets will be available at the barbecue, but prices will go up. If you take your barbecue tickets to the fair office, you can get $5 off rodeo tickets.

If you show a market animal, promotion day will be Tuesday, July 13th. We will be meeting together at Memorial Park, assigning sections to clubs and groups, and going out to put up posters and inform businesses about the Junior Livestock Auction. So keep an eye out for us walking around in our dress white uniforms.
