2020-2021 4H County Ambassador

The first full week of October is National 4-H Week. 4-H was established in 1914 with the passing of the Smith Lever Act. 4-H has grown to be the largest youth development program serving nearly six million youth in the United States.

With National 4-H Week the Lassen County 4-H Program is starting a new year and has some exciting activities this month.

The week of October 4-10, 2020, 4-H members all over the county will represent 4-H to the community. Most members will wear their 4-H club shirts to school.

You might see some presentation boards in local businesses educating customers about different projects.  Some clubs will participate in activities around the community.

Milford 4-H will be honoring a long-time supporter and will be doing something for patrons at Wemple’s Pumpkin Patch. The Leadership Development Project will be donating cookies and food items to Blue Star Moms.

Standish 4-H is sponsoring a Halloween Craft Show on Friday October 23rd from 3 to 8pm and Saturday, October 24th from 9am to 3pm at the Standish 4-H Hall (718-880 Hwy 395 East). There will be talented craftsmen sharing their art. On Saturday, come in costume and take pictures in the picture corner and trick or treat with our vendors.

There will also be a coloring contest and a baked potato bar for lunch on Saturday. If you have any questions, contact Virginia for any questions at (530)310-1993.

Lake 4-H will be holding their monthly pancake breakfast on Saturday, October 17. The breakfast will be held at Janesville Fire Hall from 7am to 10am. The cost is $6. The breakfast is eggs with a choice of pancakes or biscuits & gravy, and a choice of bacon or sausage. As of right now the pancake breakfast is a drive through only. And remember, veterans always eat free!

Tractor Supply Co. is a great sponsor of 4-H.  During National 4-H Week they have their annual Paper Clover Fundraiser. Please stop in and make a donation from October 2 to October 18.

I started a Cloverbud project for members ages 5-8. We had our first meeting in September. The picture up top is Ben Kirklin and Maddi Johnson, the Teen and Junior leaders for my project. 4-H has many activities and projects to offer. Now is a great time to join.

To join, contact Darcy Hanson at [email protected] or call her at (530)251-8285. There are 7 clubs to choose from and each club offers a variety of projects.
