Hey kids, are you looking for a fun way to spend the summer while learning about art? The Lassen County Arts Council is presenting a series of workshops between now and July 29th focused on letting you dabble in all sorts of different artistic mediums.
The Summer Art Program began on Monday and will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:30p.m. Classes are limited to 20 children per workshop so you will want to sign-up soon. You can click here to download the workshop registration form.
The cost is $85 for all of the remaining workshops or $10 per workshop on a drop-in basis. After today’s class openings will only be available at the $10 drop-in rate.
There are also some limited opportunities for scholarships for children whose families qualify, please ask at the Arts Council gallery for details. Payment is due at the beginning of each workshop.

Wednesday 6/17/15 Kinetic Art Debra Miller
This art project uses symmetry with colorful geometric paper forms assembled with multicolored paperclips to create geometric mobiles.
Monday 6/22/15 Crazy Cactus Debra Miller
Kids will learn the elements of shape, line, and color while also discovering rhythm and texture in composition. Students will draw, color, and “texturize” a ‘crazy’ cactus using squeeze paint, paper, pencils and markers.
Wednesday 6/24/15 Where We Live Elizabeth Lee
Students will create images of Susanville and the surrounding area using pencils.
Monday 6/29/15 Folk Art Reptiles Debra Miller
This workshop focuses on the folk art technique, repoussé (ruh-poo-say), the process of embossing images into sheet metal. In this project, three-dimensional shapes are created with foam core and covered with foil and then the aluminum foil is embossed with the underlying raised designs.
Wednesday 7/1/15 Basic Life Drawing – sign language alphabet Lisa Perkins
Students will draw their own hands in the shapes of sign language letters of their names or initials.
Monday 7/6/15 Fantasy Space Art Debra Miller
Fantasy Space Art combines science and our knowledge of the universe to portray imaginary planets, exploding stars, space rocks, and galaxies. Students will use a variety of materials including tempera paint, oil pastel, white chalk, poster board, and even a toothbrush!
Wednesday 7/8/15 Reptile Relief Debra Miller
This abstract art project walks the students through superimposing a “relief” of a reptile against the nonobjective style of painted lines and chalk.
Monday 7/20/15 Still Life Drawing – Aliens Lisa Perkins
Students will draw basic shapes, and learn techniques for making those shapes 3D images. The students will turn those shapes into silly alien picture.
Wednesday 7/22/15 Fabric art Debra Miller
Students will design and paint artwork onto fabric.
Monday 7/27/15 African Mask Debra Miller
Masks were created to wear in ceremonies and dances for a variety of reasons, including good health, traditions, and influencing nature. This project uses various materials dried beans, raffia, tissue paper, watercolors, and more.
Wednesday 7/29/15 Printmaking Debra Miller
Students will create free flowing images and transfer them using watercolors. They will work with styrofoam sheets, watercolors, ballpoint pens, glue, sand paper, tempera paint, and more.
