It’s Ghosting Season. Don’t be scared. This is a fundraiser by Lassen Family Services, Inc. Throughout October, they will be placing little ghosts into yards around Susanville. If a ghosts are placed in your yard, you will receive a form taped to your door explaining how to ghost another lawn. This ghosting is done in Good Spirits and is not meant to be offensive in any way. These ghosts will Rest In Piece on a lawn for twenty-four hours until they mysteriously Cross Over to another person’s lawn. To ghost someone, please call 530.257.4599. Thank you for your support. The money raised from this fundraiser allows LFS to continue providing services to survivors of violence in our community.

The Bureau of Land Management and Lassen Rural Bus are inviting the public to enjoy peaking fall colors along the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail during the annual fall colors bike ride and shuttle on Saturday, October 21st. The BLM will shuttle bikes and the bus will carry riders from Susanville to ride starting points on the trail. Participants should meet at 8:15a.m. at the historic Susanville Depot, 601 Richmond Road. The bus and shuttle depart promptly at 8:30a.m. There are small separate fees for the bus and bike shuttles. Exact change is encouraged. The bus and bike shuttle will stop at Devil’s Corral Trailhead, Fredonyer Summit and near Westwood, where participants can ride or walk seven, 18 or 25 miles back to Susanville. Participants should dress in layers for changing weather conditions. Forecasts show morning temperatures at or near freezing, with midday temperatures climbing to the low to mid-60s. The bike ride is ideal for families. The Bizz Johnson Trail route is mostly downhill or flat on a smooth gravel surface. The BLM recommends wide-tired or hybrid bikes. Get ready for Spooktacular Fun at Lassen Library. Calling all ghouls and ghosts for an eerie experience. Saturday, October 21st from 11:00 to 12:30p.m., at the Lassen Library. Join them for spooky crafts, STEAM activities, and a scary story. Build your own catapult to launch marshmallow ‘missiles’ at monsters in a haunted castle, Put on some bat ears and tune in to the world of bats with some crafts and more, enjoy an activity packet to take home or explore in the library, and stay for a spooky story, don’t worry, not to spooky.

Every Bloomin Thing presents Homefront Herbalist Fermentation Fun. Friday October 27, at 5:30p.m. at Every Bloomin Thing. Come and spend the evening with Kristie of Homefront Herbalist (formerly Kristie’s Kitchen) learning why it’s so important to incorporate fermented foods into our everyday diet. Can anyone say healthy gut microbiome? In this class you will learn about the process of fermentation, the benefits of eating fermented foods, taste some delicious samples, and learn about the versatility of fermenting from veggies, fruit, to dairy and more. This class will offer a hands-on activity learning how to create your very own ferment from beginning to end to take home and enjoy.

VFW, Veterans of Foreign Wars William Davidson Post 2381 presents Saturday Breakfast. April Through December from 0800 hours to 1100 hours at the Veterans Memorial Hall. VFW Post 2381 will be serving breakfast on the 1st Saturday of each month. Breakfast is open to the public. Breakfast will be held downstairs in the Veterans Memorial Building in Susanville.

The Monticola Club House at 140 South Lassen Street could meet that need with 1500 square feet of indoor space able to fit 170, a fully equipped kitchen and it is also handicap accessible. The venue is perfect for celebrations and memorials of any type such as showers, birthdays, anniversaries, teas, receptions, meetings, conferences, trainings, holiday get-togethers, fundraisers, presentations, celebration of life and other activities. The fully equipped kitchen includes utensils, plates, cups, saucers, coffee, and hot water pot. There are also padded folding chairs and both round and rectangle tables. You not only get the perfect event venue, but rental money is an important source of revenue for the non-profit Monticola Club, 501(c)(3). The Club was started in 1912 as a service organization formed to provide local women ways to improve the quality of life in our community. Over the years these are some of the various local activities or support provided by the Club: Food Baskets, Water for River Clean-up, Fire Victim Support, Senior Support, Beautification Projects-trees, flowers, Penny Pines reforestation, Library support, And of course, college scholarships.
