It’s Ghosting Season. Don’t be scared. This is a fundraiser by Lassen Family Services, Inc. Throughout October, they will be placing little ghosts into yards around Susanville. If a ghosts are placed in your yard, you will receive a form taped to your door explaining how to ghost another lawn. This ghosting is done in Good Spirits and is not meant to be offensive in any way. These ghosts will Rest In Piece on a lawn for twenty-four hours until they mysteriously Cross Over to another person’s lawn. To ghost someone, please call 530.257.4599. Thank you for your support. The money raised from this fundraiser allows LFS to continue providing services to survivors of violence in our community.
The Lassen County Arts Council is excited to announce the Autumn Exhibit. The Autumn Exhibit is a shared show featuring Rome Ravenwood of ChaCha’s Tacos, Ana Rivera of Mini Benniz, and LMUD’s Ruralite Magazine Photo Cover Contest Entries. Please join the Art’s Council, October 5, 2023 through November 18, 2023 to view this amazing exhibit. The gallery is open weekly on Thursday and Friday from 4:00 to 7:00p.m., and Saturday 9:00 to 4:00p.m., and by appointment. There will be a reception held in partnership with LMUD on October 12, 2023 from 5:30-7:00p.m., with complimentary snacks and a no host bar.
The Ruralite Cover Photo Contest received dozens of entries, and it was not an easy decision for the Ruralite judges, however the winning photos are: Mike Lee: Tunnel to Wonderland, Cosmic Fireplace, Weed Ceremony (grebe dance) Bruce Brown: Flowers – Spring on Whaleback, Mountain – Lake Helen, Winter Sunshine, Kalilie Shoemaker: Butt Valley Reservoir. In collaboration with the Lassen County Arts Council, you are invited to a reception honoring the winners and recognizing the hard work and efforts of all who entered. Each photograph that was submitted will be featured in the show that will hang in the art gallery for the Autumn Exhibit which will run from October 5 through November 18. Winners of the photo contest will be presented with a $100, LMUD Energy Gift card and their photos will be featured on the covers of the 2024 Ruralite magazine. Rome and Ana’s reception date is TBD, but is an event that should not be missed as it will feature delicious food from these local vendors.

Lassen Youth Soccer presents KICK or Treat Halloween Soccer Tournament on Saturday, October 14th. U6-U19, $5 per player. Lassen Library Family Literacy Day, Saturday October 14th at 11:00a.m. Geared towards families with children 0-5 years old, join them for an afternoon of stories, songs, and activities about learning our ABC’s. Every Bloomin Thing presents Homefront Herbalist Fermentation Fun. Friday October 27, at 5:30p.m. at Every Bloomin Thing. Come and spend the evening with Kristie of Homefront Herbalist (formerly Kristie’s Kitchen) learning why it’s so important to incorporate fermented foods into our everyday diet. Can anyone say healthy gut microbiome? In this class you will learn about the process of fermentation, the benefits of eating fermented foods, taste some delicious samples, and learn about the versatility of fermenting from veggies, fruit, to dairy and more. This class will offer a hands-on activity learning how to create your very own ferment from beginning to end to take home and enjoy.

VFW, Veterans of Foreign Wars William Davidson Post 2381 presents Saturday Breakfast. April Through December from 0800 hours to 1100 hours at the Veterans Memorial Hall. VFW Post 2381 will be serving breakfast on the 1st Saturday of each month. Breakfast is open to the public. Breakfast will be held downstairs in the Veterans Memorial Building in Susanville.
In our community, Lassen College presents a unique opportunity to engage in various enriching discussions with their free lunchtime lecture series. The series takes place every Tuesday from 11:30 to 12:30p.m., at the Lassen Library District conference room on Main Street. These weekly, hour-long sessions delve into diverse topics ranging from practical skills such as writing effective professional emails and starting a small business, to crowd-pleaser topics including beekeeping and the mysterious world of spiders. They even cover critical issues like managing financial worries and cyber-awareness skills for the whole family.
